I am sure this topic must have been discussed somewhere...but i guess i dont know what is the correct word to search for it.
I was wondering, if it is possible to get those extra steel front and rear "bumper guards" fixed for all types of cars...say UVA or Indigo or Icon-Flair.
If so, where in bangalore...and how much does it cost.
and..is it worth the cost...lets assume that one is ok with the "ugly" look that it will give on a cute uva...
Does it server its purpose of protecting the bumbers from scratches.

and most important...what are those things actually called?

Thanks,

I was actually talking abt the crash guard.
But my actual intent of thinking abt them was to protect the bumbers of my wud be car from scratches. I am kind of week hearted person and wont be able to see my new shiny wud be car getting scratched by some idiot....specially when the most common scratch that I see are on bumpers.

So the intent is prevent bumpers getting scratched.
My possible solution was crash guards.
Any other options..please advice. Distinguished - BHPian

Unless you are in the habit of driving into things, it is my experience that most of those unexplained scratches on your new car (sorry; they are inevitable, I guess) seem to come on the side. Bikers squeezing past, other parked cars opening their doors, and so on.

My three-month old front bumper is about the only part of the car which is pretty much untouched! Might even be more appropriate to put one of those things on the back! Ours was dented by a bike on day four of owning the car. Both sides have small scratches and evidence of other door openers. Damnit, even the roof shows of evidence why I always said only I should clean the car.

Those bumper corner rubbers got a mention in that silliest-car-accessory thread, but I have more than once thought I could clear an obstacle on a tight turn, only to get a scratch, so I think they are worth it.

Drive carefully, but please say no to bull bars Senior - BHPian

I think what you described here is what is used by most folks for escaping from getting scratches as the rounded corners of the bumpers are the most susceptable for scratches.

I had an experience this morning, i came to office and parked the car and took a look and was to see that my rear left bumber has some medium sized scratches on them. i dont even recall if somebody touched me or something as the music is always so loud, i wouldnt even know if somebody kisses me.

My question here is should i use any ready made spray paint to make to hide the scratches? mine is that bright red color, will i be able to get the same one in aftermarket? BHPian

Also, I cannot imagine a crash guard on a honda city, a lancer or an accord...it goes well with jeeps and SUV's, maruti omni...i have seen some on maruti 800 & santro though...

The 5 Best Ways to Protect Your Front Bumper - All-Fit Automotive

If you want the best possible protection for your front bumper, you want to look at accessories that protect both the surface of the bumper AND the underside.

Goto Silipi Technology to know more.

We put together a list of the top five accessories to add to your front bumper to protect its surface and underside. Keep in mind that these accessories vary in quality and durability. Read on to learn more about each one:

1. Front Bumper Guards

You can purchase wide, front bumper guards. Usually built from foam and/or cotton materials and secured with Velcro, they offer some bumper protection. Really used for parking protection, they help prevent the scratches, dings, and minor dents that parking maneuvers can cause. However, they don’t look great. They block some of the grille and air dam, so these guards aren’t ideal for much travel. Also, they don’t offer much (if any) protection to the underside from curbs, speed bumps, road debris, and more.

2. Thick Rubber License Plate Surrounds

A rubber license plate surround that’s at least 3″ thick serves as the first point of contact when your car bumps into something else. However, it doesn’t protect your front bumper from scratches, nor does it protect the bumper’s underside. Many car owners who are concerned about the appearance of their cars choose to forgo installing thick rubber license plate surrounds because they don’t always look good.

3. All-Fit Flex Trim

The All-Fit Flex Trim is an adhesive protection strip that can be added to any bumper. Available in a few different finishes, these products offer decent bumper scratch protection from other cars while parked.

If you are looking for more details, kindly visit Car Bumper Guard.

However, this bumper strip doesn’t protect the underside from curbs or speed bumps. Most people who purchase the All-Fit Flex Trim also purchase the All-Fit Universal Lip to protect the underside.

4. All-Fit Universal Lip

The All-Fit Universal Lip is a thick and durable rubber strip that’s designed to be attached to the underside of your front bumper. It does a fantastic job of protecting the underside of the front bumper from curbs, speed bumps, and other obstacles.

Not only that, but the All-Fit Universal Lip also looks great and definitely gives cars a lowered look along with protection. The only thing it doesn’t offer is front bumper surface protection, but that’s what the All-Fit Flex Trim is for.

5. Transparent Film

You know the 3M transparent film some people use to cover their hoods? You can use that same film to cover your front bumper. Installation can be pretty tricky, though, given the many curves your bumper has. That film will protect your front bumper from scrapes and scratches, but it won’t do anything if your car bumps into something else hard enough to leave a crack or dent.
